REFLECTING VENICE “Reflecting Venice” is the proposed theme for a series of artist’s books that are intended to contribute to the culture of Venice.
During their month-long stay in Venice, participants will document their individual experiences inspired by the city, its culture, monuments, art and inhabitants.
Venice, though undoubtedly beautiful, is a city touched by signs of cultural decline, including a diminishing population and an overabundance of commercial imagery.
Through the creation of the books Venice Printmaking Studio asks artists to offer a critical perspective of the city beyond the standard visual images currently available in order to convey a sense of authenticity. The books can be a response through images, words or a combination of both.
